The City : Jamshedpur
Jamshedpur is the first planned industrial city of India, founded by Late Jamshedji Nusserwanji Tata, and is located in the East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand. As the name signifies, the district was commonly known as the ‘Land of Lions’. The city has a population of more than 10 lakhs and the surrounding areas of Jamshedpur are rich in minerals of iron, copper, uranium and gold. Jamshedpur, besides being an industrial hub, is a popular tourist destination surrounded by Dalma Hills, Subarnarekha and Kharkai rivers. The Dimna lake, Jubilee park, Chandil dam, Dalma hills, zoological park and the laser show are some of the attractions in Jamshedpur for a short time visitors. The city has a pleasant climate and the district has around one third forest area. Normal temperature in the month of December is around 65 oF. It is situated at a distance of 131 and 250 km from Ranchi and Kolkata, respectively, and is well connected by air (Ranchi is the nearest airport) and rail.
