Date: January 29-30, 2026
Venue: The Alcor Hotel, Jamshedpur
The second edition of the International Conference on Sintering, Pelletizing & Briquetting (ICSPB 2026) was successfully held on 29–30 January 2026 at The Alcor Hotel, Jamshedpur. Organized by Tata Steel Limited, in collaboration with the IIM Jamshedpur Chapter and the Pellet Manufacturers Association of India (PMAI), the conference brought together global experts, technologists, researchers, steelmakers, and innovators for two impactful days focused on the future of agglomeration technology and sustainable steelmaking. The conference was graced by Mr. Chaitanya Bhanu, Vice President, Tata Steel Jamshedpur Operations, as Chief Guest. The event was conducted under the mentorship of Dr. Atanu Ranjan Pal and Mr. Surajit Sinha, with Mr. Vipul Mohan Koranne serving as the Convener.
Key Highlights:
- ICSPB 2026 served as a vibrant platform for knowledge exchange, technical insights, and collaborative dialogue across the BF–BOF route. Delegates engaged deeply with evolving challenges and emerging opportunities in sintering, pelletizing, briquetting, and beneficiation—technologies central to improving efficiency, reducing costs, and supporting decarbonization initiatives across the steel value chain.
- ICSPB 2026 featured presentations and insights from globally recognized leaders in ironmaking, process control, digital transformation, mineral processing, and sustainable raw materials. Distinguished experts included Joseph Poveromo (USA), Dr. Hesham Ahmed (Luleå University of Technology), Mr. Shimon Ando (Rio Tinto), Dr. Geoffrey Brooks (Swinburne/CSIRO), Dr. S. K. Biswal (India), Dr Ashok Kumar (UK) among several others whose contributions enriched the technical depth of the conference.
- With participation from 350+ delegates representing 60+ organizations across more than 10 countries, the conference reaffirmed its position as a premier global forum in the field of iron ore agglomeration.
- A special initiative this year was the invitation extended to nearly 25 students from NIT Jamshedpur, BIT Sindri, and IIT (ISM) Dhanbad—a significant step toward strengthening industry–academia collaboration and nurturing the next generation of metallurgists and agglomeration specialists.
- Across two days, the technical sessions showcased the industry’s commitment to building a greener, smarter, and more efficient agglomeration landscape, with focused discussions on BF/DRI‑grade pellets, briquetting technologies, digitalization, enhanced process control, and beneficiation of low/medium‑grade iron ores.
- The ideas, conversations, and insights generated at ICSPB 2026 will continue to influence innovation, digital transformation, circularity, and sustainable pathways for the steel industry in the years ahead.
