International Seminar on ‘Screening and Sizing’ (i3S) during 16-17 January at Hotel Alcor, Jamshedpur

The Indian Institute of Metals, Jamshedpur Chapter in association with Tata Steel Limited, CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur and National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur organised an “International seminar on Screening and Sizing” (i3S). The seminar took place from 16-17 January at Hotel Alcor, Jamshedpur.

The inauguration function was chaired by Dr. Siddharatha Misra, Chairman i3S & Chief Process Research, R&D, Tata Steel Limited who welcomed all the delegates, sponsors, dignitaries and students. Prof Ashok Kumar, faculty, NIT Jamshedpur and Chairman IIM Jamshedpur chapter talked about the chapter’s activities. The seminar also brought many Dignitaries and guest of honour on a common platform including Mr. Subodh Pandey, VP Technology, R&D, NMB and Graphene, TSL, Prof. B K Mishra, Distinguished Visiting Professor, IIT Bhubaneswar and Mr. D B Sundara Ramam, VP Raw Materials, TSL. They emphasized the role of screening and sizing in a processing plant and how important it is in todays context. The seminar showed that screens play a vital role in realizing the increased production of steel by utilizing the low grade ores and turning wastes into wealth for a greener and sustainable future.

The seminar is a milestone achievement for the mineral engineering fraternity that brings together experts and enthusiasts from across the globe like from Europe, China, Brazil, Australia and of course India to work together and push the boundaries of knowledge and innovation. The distinguished speakers include professors from premiers institutes from abroad (Chalmers University of Technology, CSIRO Australia) and India (Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, Indian Institute of Technology Bhuvneshwar, Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad, Indian Institute of Technology- ISM Dhanbad and Kazi Nazrul University), and experts from OEMs (Sandvik, Internal Combustion, Weir Minerals, FLSmidth, Haver & Boecker, Metso, Derrick Corporation and Tata Steel Limted). In addition to this, there are eight stalls by OEMs for hands-on demonstrations, expert panels, and ample networking opportunities for participants. Finally, there are eleven poster presentations by students from premier institutes for showcasing the latest advancements and trends in screening.
