The Indian Institute of Metals (IIM) Jamshedpur Chapter hosted an engaging interactive session with students of the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (MME) at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur on November 11, 2025. The event was at NIT Jamshedpur and was graced by an esteemed panel of dignitaries including Dr. Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury, Director, CSIR-NML, Dr. Gautam Sutradhar, Director, NIT Jamshedpur, Shri Chaitanya Bhanu, Vice President, Tata Steel Ltd, Dr. Atanu Ranjan Pal, Chairman, IIM Jamshedpur Chapter, and Prof. Ashok Kumar, Head, MME Department. The prime aim of the event was to provide a common platform for the students to interact with experts from academia, R&D, and industry professionals. The event attracted more than 200 participants including students and faculty members from MME Department as well as eminent professionals like Dr Soumitra Tarafder, Dr. V. C. Srivastava, Dr. Himanshu Mishra and Dr. T. K. Roy.

Key highlights:

  • Dr Atanu Ranjan Pal gave an insightful briefing about the scope and benefits of the IIM platform and requested students to come up with their thoughts related to future career opportunities, startup initiatives and innovations to empower the next generation of metallurgists.
  • All the dignitaries including Ghosh Chowdhury, Dr. Sutradhar and Shri Chaitanya Bhanu motivated the students through highly engaging interactions regarding the scope of metallurgists and material scientists in every field of engineering.
  • They also suggested the students to be a part of IIM platform for networking and personal growth by participating in industry-academia interactions, hosting innovative workshops and developing industry-relevant skills.
  • The program was concluded with vote of thanks by Dr Gopi Kishor Mandal, Secretary of IIM, Jamshedpur Chapter.
